Every fundamental property of nature ever measured can, at least in principle, be computed from 32 dimensionless parameters, as Max Tegmark argues in Our Mathematical Universe (2014). I have updated some of the measured values to reflect better data gathered in the intervening years, but the effect is the same. It should be stated plainly that Tegmark counts 32 parameters, not 33, and that he has no affiliation with this site and does not endorse it. The 32+1 symmetry is entirely my own, as is the parallel with the 33 constituents of the Tree of Life in Kabbalah, a correspondence that is numerological and poetic rather than physically necessary, yet as a mnemonic and contemplative architecture, unusually apt. The 33 runes of the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc provide a symbolic form for the 32 parameters plus a central singularity. Kabbalah is deeply concerned with cosmogony; Tegmark's parameters may be understood as conditions for a life-permitting cosmology, absent which no universe like ours could exist. In that sense, a quiet symmetry appears across time and tradition.
